Letters From Leton: Cyber Friday

I know what you are thinking. Leton, you have your days mixed up. It’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

My question to you is – are you sure?

After seeing the numbers Monday morning on Bloomberg about the tremendous increase in online shopping Friday I think we may need to change the name to Cyber Weekend. This is just another reminder of how the world has changed. Don’t agree with me? How much shopping do you do or have you done online and on your phone?

So why do we expect banking to be any different?

If the recent spate of fraudulent debit card transactions has taught us anything, it is the value of services like Mobi Money and the other electronic services we offer.

Banking has changed.

Rates are important on deposits.

The need for physical buildings is way down.

However, the value of people, knowledgeable people is more important than ever.

Our work is cyber every day – just not a Monday (or Friday) in November.

Have a great week.
– Leton
