Powell Valley National Bank was established in 1888 in Jonesville, Virginia. With Bank headquarters remaining in Jonesville, Powell Valley National Bank has opened branches in Pennington Gap, Wise, Big Stone Gap, and Duffield over the years. In 2014, Powell Valley Bankshares, Inc. created an affiliate, Powell Valley Investment Services, offering securities through Osaic Institutions, Inc. Powell Valley National Bank also opened a loan production office in Kingsport, TN the same year. In 2017, PVB expanded its presence in the region with the opening of a loan production office in Abingdon, VA. In 2018, the Bank opened a full-service office in Kingsport. In June 2019, PVB opened its newest full-service office in Abingdon, VA.

With 135 years of community banking experience, Powell Valley National Bank is the oldest bank in far Southwest Virginia, the 4th oldest bank in Virginia and the 5th oldest bank operating in Tennessee.
