If you have a favorite movie or TV show, you may enjoy the “behind the scenes” look offered by the creators and cast. Often, the inside view comes when the show celebrates a milestone (100thepisode) or when it’s a blockbuster movie that shows all the special effects (Avatar).
Perhaps you haven’t thought about banking or your bank, PVB, doing things that may have a “behind the scenes” component. This is understandable, as many folks think of banks as checking accounts and loans. But there is so much more.
Do you know that banks are granted “charters” to do business? This is a special and unique process – you can’t just go out and start a bank. Part of this charter is to support the financial needs of the community.
Which brings me to behind the scenes. Housing is a tremendous need in our region, especially working-class housing. As a bank, we could be satisfied with the role of making loans to help people buy a house and stop there – nothing wrong with that role. However, PVB is not a place that does what is simply expected – We always go the extra mile.
So, over the past couple of years, we have led meetings with local business leaders, builders, government agencies, banking regulators, and others to create energy around solving this tremendous issue. Often, we introduce these folks to one another to start dialogue and efforts in housing development. We are doing this because it is needed for our region. This extra effort takes time and resources. It has no assured positive outcome. Yet if we do nothing, our neighbors will not have houses that become homes.
So, if you have someone who asks why they should bank at PVB, take them “behind the scenes” and share that PVB is a bank that cares and is not satisfied with the status quo.
Have a great week.
