Letters From Leton: Spring Projects

Are you ready for Spring? So am I!

This winter seems to have gone on and on, with this latest bout of cold weather just piling on. Times like this make me, you, and every one long for spring. We are blessed to have four seasons in Appalachia, and when we get too worn out on one season, we are re-invigorated for the next.

I still get a few gardening magazines and some newsletters. As I wistfully thumb through them, I begin developing plans. As I walk around my house, I already see projects for the coming year. Some painting is needed here and some trimming of hedges is needed there.

Getting motivated is the key to success. The same applies to home and garden projects as it does in banking and business. This past Monday at our Loan Training session, we were blessed to have Mark Trinkle with Anthony Cole Training Group with us. It was a great presentation about being successful as a loan officer, a banker, or just whatever it is that you seek out in life to do.

Mark laid out what I think are the five (5) keys to your success:
  1. Desire
  2. Commitment
  3. Outlook
  4. Responsibility
  5. Motivation
Desire is where things start and in some ways it’s the easiest on the list. You may have personal desires (self-improvement), professional desires, or life desires. Next comes the most important part of the process, commitment. Everyone desires – but are we willing to exert the effort, hard work, time, and resources to meet your desires? Having a positive outlook, accepting responsibility for things instead of looking to blame others, and maintaining motivation are other keys to succeeding.

At the center of all of this is you. While we all may have mentors, promoters, caregivers, and so on, it will be you who makes it work out (or not).

At PVB we have a lot of committed, positive-thinking folks who take responsibility for their actions and who are motivated every day to get better. That is what being a PVB Banker means.

Have a great week. – Leton
