Thanksgiving is about a lot of things – Family, Football, and food. One of my favorites was my mom’s homemade pumpkin pies. These pies were made from scratch and made with lots of love (and lard).
One year my mom’s pie turned out to be the really “hot” item at the family dinner. You see, my mom was not a tall lady. All of the spices were above the stove and lined up so she could grab them via memory. Unfortunately, instead of reaching for the pumpkin spice, my mom reached for the Chilli powder.
As we concluded our assault on the turkey, dressing, potatoes, and other delicious favorites we dug into the pie. Yikes! Not what we expected. While the pie was not what we expected, the memory of that day and the laughter that occurred rings in my ear to this day.
As you gather with your family this year always remember it is not the quality of the food that matters. Rather, it is the love and friendship around the table that creates lasting memories.
