A couple Saturdays ago was my day to work at the Wise office.

It was a cold and snowy morning. It had snowed another four inches that night, and the roads were a bit slippery and covered.

As customary, I went by Hardee’s in Wise before work to pick up breakfast for my teammate (and myself).

Approaching Hardees, I thought that the restaurant might not be open. I could understand why and that the weather may have kept workers away. There were no car tracks in the parking lot, and I saw no vehicles either. 

Swinging in towards the drive-up, I spotted two cars parked on the other side of the building. They were open!

After ordering, I came up to pay. A young lady took my money and provided me with my food. I told her I admired her commitment to her job. Coming in on a day like this when others may have decided not to.

Arriving at work, I saw that Jenna was already there, having driven up the mountain from Big Stone Gap to Wise, beating me to work.

Later, sitting in my office eating my breakfast burrito, I wondered what made these two ladies approach their work with a degree of pride and seriousness? What was different about them from others who perhaps decided to stay home that snowy day?

Somewhere along the line these folks developed an internal focus on doing what they agreed to do and a pride in being there for the people they said they would be there for.

There are many assets that co-workers, friends, and family bring to their relationships with others.

Often the basic concept of commitment gets overlooked by many.

Not by me.
