Jonesville, VA – Powell Valley National Bank (PVB, Bank) is pleased to announce the promotion of Tonya Buchanan to Assistant Vice President.
Buchanan joined PVB in early 2018 as Electronic Services Administrator working in the Abingdon Loan Production Office. A veteran in the industry, Tonya holds over 30 years of banking experience. She began her career as a drive thru and lobby teller working for a community bank in Abingdon, Virginia, and worked her way up the ranks with promotions over the years to head teller and customer service representative. As interest and demand for online banking and debit cards began to grow in the early 2000s, Tonya transitioned to bank operations, and held a variety of responsibilities in the electronic banking department.
Since joining PVB, Tonya has been instrumental in the launch of many new electronic and digital banking products and services including remote deposit capture, instant issue debit cards, and small business bill pay. She manages the bank’s daily ACH origination processes and has doubled the number of new ACH customers over the last few years. Currently, Buchanan is the project manager for a redesign of the bank’s business online banking platform that is set to launch in late February.
“Tonya’s experience and dedication to the ever-evolving role of Electronic Banking is an essential piece of the success of our bank’s digital products and services,” says Powell Valley National Bank President and CEO, Leton L. Harding Jr. “As demand continues to increase for electronic services, particularly since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, with Tonya’s leadership, our customers can expect that their community bank will continue to provide first-class electronic banking products and services in a technology driven world.”
Tonya was born in Abingdon, VA, but raised in Knoxville, TN and is a graduate of Farragut High School. She has one daughter, Kayla, and two grandchildren, Walker and Marlie. She resides in Damascus, VA.
